Betsy Smith, daughter of Dr. Dan and Jeanie Smith, entered into the presence of Jesus on Wednesday, April 26, 2006. Betsy's passion was people. She was especially focused on sharing the love of Christ with needy children.
In her mission statement, written while she was still in high school, Betsy said:
"I need to learn to forgive and let go, I cannot hold grudges, and be fulfilling God’s calling for my life. There is no room for an attitude. 'He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain what he cannot lose' To me, this means giving my life away, because it is not mine to keep."
We believe that God is still using Betsy’s love of ministry to further his kingdom through the testimony of her life. We strive to continue the love and support she showed to the people around her.
This race is dedicated to the memory and work of Betsy Smith. In order to honor her memory and her love for Christ, two-thirds of the proceeds from this year’s race will go to the Big Brothers Big Sisters program in Macon County, Illinois. The other one-third will go to a ministry for children in Marion, Indiana called REALIFE. Betsy was involved with REALIFE throughout her college years.
It is our way of furthering the work that God started in this wonderful woman of Christ.
